2018 National American Advertising Awards Results

Seattle agencies took home two Gold and four Silver ADDYs at the 2018 national competition!

The 2018 National American Advertising Awards were held June 8th in Chicago as part of the American Advertising Federation's AdMerica annual national conference.

We sent a few board members out to learn from their peers at the conference and to cheer on local entrants at the award show.

Entries begin their journey in local shows, with winners moving on to district competition, and those winners then compete at the national level. It's quite an accomplishment to be awarded at any level, but to get national recognition is truly significant.

Seattle made an impact again this year, winning multiple ADDYs including Golds for POSSIBLE and Indigo Slate, and a student Gold for Mariah Behrens.

Congratulations to all the 2018 winners from western Washington!

Judging Las Vegas

Our Communications Director, Luis Antezana, reports on what it's like to be an ADDY judge, and exemplifies how being involved in the AAF grows your network, your experiences, and your opportunties…

Vegas.

The American Advertising Awards.

Judging people’s creative work.

All things I really enjoy.

That’s what was in store when I agreed to serve as a judge for Las Vegas’s ADDY Awards last weekend.

The details that go along with the premise of such an experience just sweeten the deal:

Air travel. Meeting new people. Establishing a team dynamic. Experiencing creative in another market. Rewarding great work. Revisiting, respecting, and upholding professional standards.

Serving the American Advertising Federation.

Eating somewhere new on someone else’s dime.

It all started as strangers introducing themselves at the Western Region Conference at Snowbird resort last fall. As anyone who’s sat with the same people through a weekend of seminars knows, you develop a gut feeling for someone’s capacities. And whether you’d like to ever see them again.

While I’ve told myself their original choice must have backed out, I was honored to receive the call from AAF Las Vegas. Their hospitality was gracious and the process went amazingly smoothly. My fellow judges were true pros, and fun to hang out with, both during and after judging. (Enough said on that part).

Judges dinner with AAF Las Vegas crew kicks off the weekend

Winning an American Advertising Award can make a career, or cap one off, so agencies submit their very best work, hoping for that special recognition. Viewing others’ creative is always simultaneously humbling and inspiring. To judge it is truly a privilege.

Congratulations to the 2018 winners!

The Social

Even though our underground location had little to no internet availability (%^&$@^!) we still had plenty of social sharing using #SeattleADDYs and #SeattleADDYWinner.

See our all our pics from the evening—and be sure to tag yourselves—on Facebook.

The Society

The noble, the strange. This year's theme transformed the familiar into the abstract, with a notion of civility, an eye for the celestial, and a parlance of wit.

The Society represents our city’s top creative minds. Those adroit renegades who catch out mediocrity and drive it from this gritty metropolis entirely. Who dare to think bold. Be badass. Cloaked in secrecy, with a penchant for deviousness, we The Society are here. Behind every striking idea. Quiet as a raindrop on Jupiter. Fighting the fight for sublime creativity.

The Sponsors

Big time things only happen with the help of big time friends. We're grateful for these companies who helped make this evening possible.

Gallery Night 2017 Event Recap

Our evening presenting all the work submitted for the Seattle ADDYs inspired awe and appreciation. We've got the pics.

Our second annual Gallery Night was held February 23rd at AXIS Pioneer Square, and made good on our club's intent to establish a tradition of appreciation for all the entries submitted for the American Advertising Awards Seattle.

Seeing the breadth of fine work on display, the hours of effort involved, the extent of creativity, the quantity—heck, the beauty of it all—gives us incredible context for the immense challenge of this competition.

To those who didn't win this year, we honor and thank you for your work.

To those who did win, you've got a shiny new addition to your awards cabinet coming your way. And more could be coming as the competition moves on to District 11 and from there to national. Good luck!

ADDY Judging Weekend 2017

Five experienced judges convened in Seattle to judge Western Washington's best creative work. They left impressed.

The weekend of February 10-12, we were honored to welcome the critical eyes and analytical minds of this year's ADDY judges:

Mark Sarosi - Anomaly, New York
Paul Roberts - BSSP, San Francisco
École Weinstein - Havas, Chicago
Larry Olson - Studio Lo, Boulder
Brett Singer - TBWA\Chiat\Day, New York

Each year it's a big deal to have real pros from name agencies in big markets come judge our region's work. And each year, Seattle, you rise to the occasion. The judges left duly impressed.

Special thanks to SVC—an AAF Seattle Gold Sponsor—and all the volunteers who gave an entire weekend to make everything possible.

Top Agencies and Brands Awarded at 2016 National American Advertising Awards

The results of the 2016 National ADDY Awards are in. Read on for the juicy details, inlcuding a link to the complete list of winners.

The AAF awarded National Gold and Silver ADDY Awards, with Leo Burnett Chicago and College for Creative Studies students winning Best of Show.

WASHINGTON, D.C., Jun. 15, 2016—Today's caliber of advertising was showcased at last week's annual American Advertising Awards Show and Dinner. Top creatives, brands and advertising agencies were awarded with Leo Burnett Chicago winning Best of Show in the Professional division and Jason Manns and Ellen Wareham, students of the College for Creative Studies, winning Best of Show in the Student division.

This year, the Competition received a record-number of entries for the local competitions at more than 40,000 entries. Leo Burnett Chicago won Best of Show in addition to its 3 Gold ADDY Awards and 2 Silver ADDY Awards for its work for Allstate Insurance Company, Eggo, Esurance and McDonald's. Also winning Best of Show were two students from the College for Creative Studies, Jason Manns and Ellen Wareham, for "Holocaust" in the Mass Transit category, which transformed a city bus into an old-fashioned train - similar to the kind that transported prisoners to Auschwitz - with the chilling text "Imagine not knowing your final stop." on its side.

"Tonight, we celebrate innovation, insight, creativity and technical expertise that is uniquely American," said James Edmund Datri, President & CEO of the American Advertising Federation, during the Show. "These awards acknowledge the achievement of that perfect combination of superlative creative, spectacular technique and stellar execution. We proudly showcase the best of the best, and celebrate a new class of leaders in the advertising industry who inspire us all."

Hosted by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the American Advertising Awards is the advertising industry's largest and most representative competition, attracting more than 40,000 entries every year from local Club (Ad Club) competitions. The mission of the Awards is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising. This year was no exception with 135 top agencies and brands represented from across the nation.

View a complete list of winners here.

Student work from across the country was also recognized representing 47 colleges and universities. The 47 schools were collectively awarded 23 Gold ADDY Awards and 46 Silver ADDY Awards. View a complete list of Student Gold and Silver winners.

Seattle Winners at the National ADDY Awards

Last night the national American Advertising Awards were held at the Boca Raton Resort & Club at AAF National's ADmerica conference, and Seattle represented in style.

Publicis Seattle took home two Gold and two Silver ADDY awards for their work on T-Mobile, as well as a Silver for their work on the Seattle Symphony. That's a haul.

Creature brought home two Silver awards for their work on DoubleDown Interactive.

The Seattle Wunderman Network won a Silver for their work on XBOX.

And Wongdoody won a Silver for their work on the Seattle International Film Festival.

All these winners were able to compete in the national show after winning at the local and district levels. This progressive competition is one of the things that makes the American Advertising Awards so unique, and so coveted.

It's truly an honor to win any award at the highest competitive level. We were proud to represent our city, AAF District 11, and the AAF Western Region in front of so many distinguished agencies.

Also of note, Seattle agencies Hydrogen and Admosis Media (an AAF Seattle corporate member) served as media partners for the event.

We'll share more stories from ADmerica this coming week. The complete national winners list can be found at the ADmerica winners page.

Goodbye ADDY Awards, Hello American Advertising Awards!

New name, same bragging rights.

Our beloved Seattle ADDY Awards are now the American Advertising Awards Seattle. Not to worry—even though there’s a new name, it’s still the premier advertising competition that recognizes the industry’s top creatives. And the awards are still affectionately called “ADDYs,” so there’s no mistaking what you’ll be taking home.

The powers that be at the National ADDY Committee, including the national ADDY chair, our own hometown bigwig, George Riddell, decided to upgrade the profile of the event, and a name change went along with that. Read more about the name change.

Seattle's own Hydrogen provided this year's campaign, which spawned four posters to be used in print and online:

We've been busy planning since October and we're already looking for sponsors. As usual, we're aiming to hold the event in March. Judges should be announced by January. Our Silver Medal Award winner will be chosen by February. Oh, and call for entries is now - deadline January 10th, 2014!

It's shaping up to be our best awards ever.

More info can be found on our awards page.

2013 Seattle ADDY Awards: Wrap-Up

What an amazing evening! The culmination of five months of planning, tons of entries from agencies old and new in categories old and new, a long weekend of very tough judging, and lots of legwork by committee members and volunteers.

Bell Harbor International Conference Center was packed with Seattle's creative elite (due to massive demand this year's event was over 60% larger than 2012). Booze flowed freely. The crowd were enthusiastic. Mayor Mike McGinn presented the vaunted AAF Silver Medal Award to Bob Peterson after a great intro from Creature's Matt Peterson and Wexley School for Girls's Cal McAllister. Even Sir Mix-a-Lot got in on the action.

Bling

A special shout-out to these outstanding winners:

Judge’s Choice Award: Digital Kitchen - Stanley Piano - self-promotion.

Best-of-Show – Non-Traditional Advertising: Copacino+Fujikado - Edwin The Otter e-Book - Seattle Aquarium.
